How has your summer been? Some of our members are

How has your summer been? Some of our members are sharing some of the snapshots of their summer so far to give you a taste of our life here in beautiful Ontario and Quebec! 1 - Our Regent, Stephanie Coulter, shares a photograph of the first eight locks on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa, with the Chateau Laurier on the left, and the Bytown Museum on the right. 2 - Stephanie also captured this incredible snapshot of His Majesty King Charles III's visit to Ottawa in May. 3 - Allison Brown shares this snapshot of a historical museum in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, with wonderful staff/volunteers for anyone who needs help with research on family in the area. 4 - Another incredible picture of downtown Ottawa shared by Stephanie. 5 and 6 - The gardens of Quatre-Vents in Malbaie, Quebec, captured by Amanda Greenman. These historic gardens were created by American conservationist and financier Francis Cabot.

In June on a beautiful day, members of our Chapter gathered at Honey Gables Park in Ottawa to appreciate the contributions of our long time Registrar, the late Dorothy Meyerhof. We commemorated her service to our chapter by planting a tree in her honour. Thank you to Frances Enns for arranging for the tree to be planted and for the beautiful plaque to hang on the tree.

Some of our Bytown Chapter members enjoyed a lovely morning at Fort Chambly, Quebec for an annual memorial service hosted by the Saranac Chapter last weekend. Bytown members placed a wreath that they created at the memorial service in honor of the American soldiers buried at the site. Thank you to the Saranac Chapter for inviting Bytown to participate at this lovely annual memorial service.

A photo from Dr. Elkanah Billings Memorial Service on Sept. 17, 2022, which was presented by the Bytown Chapter (Ottawa, Ontario) and the John Bartram Chapter (The Villages, Florida). It was pleasure to honor his patriotic service in American Revolutionary War, and a joy to have his descendant - Lisa JB Doan (a Bytown Associate Member) at this event. It was also really nice to share this event with the Swe-Kat-Si Chapter (Ogdensburg, NY). What a great way to tie the ribbons of service and friendship with Daughters between the U.S. and Canada!

Those who made it to Bytown Chapter’s DAR Thanksgiving Dinner in November, 2022, had a wonderful meal, and a beautiful drive to and from the venue. What a gorgeous day in Ottawa!
